PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel photocatalyst, especially a photocatalyst useful for the complete decomposition of water. PSOLUTION: This novel photocatalyst is a RuOSB2/SB-carried In-containing composite oxide comprising RuOSB2/SB-carried AX(YOSB4/SB)SBm/SB(wherein A is a monovalent metal ion; X is a metal ion in the dSP10/SPelectronic state; Y is a metal ion in the dSP0/SPor dSP10/SPelectronic state; and m is 1 or 2), RuOSB2/SB-carried AX(GeOSB3/SB)SB2/SB(wherein A is a monovalent metal ion; and X is a metal ion in the dSP10/SPelectronic state), RuOSB2/SB-carried WInSB6/SBOSB12/SB, or RuOSB2/SB-carried BaSB3/SBInSB2/SBZnSB5/SBOSB11/SB.
