PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the inputting of characters drastically. PSOLUTION: At least one column of a character line-column is displayed in a display chart 913, and in a main CPU 940 an input target character selected in the character line-column is recognized according to the first or the fourth direction which is indicated by a cross key 914A, and the column which is specified by a center part 914Ae of the cross key 914A and the first or the fourth character input key 914B or 914E. Therefore, lines and columns are sequentially altered in the character line-column according to the indication of the first or the fourth direction, and the desired input target character can be selected. At the same time, the character of the indicated column can be directly selected as an input target character from other column in the character line-column without changing the line according to the indication of the column.
