PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ZrB₂-based powder capable of increasing the electrical resistance of a refractory material containing the ZrB₂-based powder and its treatment method; a refractory material and its production method; a melting furnace lining material; and a melting furnace and its production method.;SOLUTION: The refractory material 20 is produced by a process comprising the step of heating a ZrB₂-based powder 11 as the refractory raw material in the air at a specified temperature for a specified time to subject the powder to an oxidation treatment to form a non-conductive ZrO₂-based ceramic layer 12 on the surface of the ZrB₂-based powder and the step of removing, by cleaning, a glass component generated simultaneously with the ZrO₂-based ceramic layer in the oxidation treatment.
