PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet type image forming apparatus capable of allowing pigment component-based ink to flow smoothly without clogging of a waste ink tube with a solid material of the pigment component-based ink.;SOLUTION: The ink (pigment component-based ink) is ejected to an ink absorbing body 34K only from a nozzle 22K on a print head 20K. At that time, the ink is not ejected from print heads 20C, 20M, 20Y. Next, a carriage 24 is moved in a direction of arrow B' to place the print head 20C on a position right above a cap 32K. In this condition, the ink (pigment component-based ink) is ejected to the ink absorbing body 34K only from a nozzle 22C on the print head 20C. As a result, a dye component-based ink is allowed to flow to a waste ink tube 36K. Subsequently, the ink (dye component-based ink) is ejected to the ink absorbing body 34K only from a nozzle 22M on the print head 20M as the above.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
