VACCINE COMPOSITION, USE OF THE SUB-UNIT B OF A SHIGA TOXIN OR ITS IMMUNOLOGICALLY FUNCTIONAL EQUIVALENT AND AN ANTIGEN AND ADJUVANT, AND PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A VACCINE. The present invention provides a vaccine composition comprising the Shiga toxin B subunit or an immunologically functional equivalent thereof which is capable of binding to the antigen-complexed Gb3 receptor and further comprising an adjuvant, provided that when the adjuvant is is only a metal salt, is formulated such that no more than about 50% of the antigen is adsorbed onto the metal salt. Such compositions provide an improved immune response compared to Shiga toxin or an immunologically functional equivalent thereof complexed with an adjuvant-free antigen or an adjuvant-only antigen.
