In the present invention, there is described a topical pharmaceutical composition for lightening skin or reducing the pigmentation of skin or inhibiting tyrosinase in a human, which composition comprises resorcinol of the general formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier thereof. Described is also a pharmaceutical composition intended for topical or transdermal administration for treating inflammatory disorder or dandruff in a human and containing the same active substance. Said inflammatory disorder can be represented especially by psoriasis, dermatitis or acne. There is also described the use of resorcinol of the general formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt for the preparation of corresponding medicaments.
