Hydroxamates as inhibitors of histone deacetylases and containing their pharmaceutical compositions

Compounds of structural formula I having histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDAC) activity are described. Chemically, the compounds are characterized by the presence of hydroxamic acid, zinc as a chelator and an aromatic nucleus connected by a linker in which a bicyclic aromatic system or piperidine ring is present.
