The present invention refers to a method and equipment for the diagnosis of the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis infection in a human being. The method comprises a body fluid sample from a patient wherein the sample is brought into contact with iron-modulated anti-cysteine proteinase antibodies of Trichomonas vaginalis or with iron-modulated cysteine proteinase or with polynucleotides coding for an iron-modulated cysteine proteinase of Trichomonas vaginalis, for analysing the formation of protein-protein or polynucleotide-polynucleotide complexes in case the patient is infected with Trichomonas vaginalis.
