The present invention describes a novel function of TvLWGU-1 protein, which relates to the main participation thereof in the cytoadherence of Trichomonas vaginalis parasite to the host cell, this requiring the location of the TvLEGU-1 protein to be revealed in the surface of the parasite, testing such specific adherence and associating it as a virulence factor of this parasite. The inhibition of the TvLEGU-1 protein function is intended to inhibit or avoid the colonization of T vaginalis in the vaginal mucosa, developing non-toxic specific antitrichomonal chemotherapeutic agents topically or systemically administered.
