The device for the widening and decelerating of a stream of bottles has a single-track feed conveyor (4) with rails (2,3) on both sides, and a multi-track, slower running, delivery conveyor (7) also with rails (5,6) on both sides. Guides (9,10) interconnect the two sets of rails and form a transition section (8) which widens in the transporting direction and in which the bottles are transported by conveyor belts (11,14). The conveyor belts in the transition section run at least partially at an angle to the transporting direction of the feed conveyor.
