A method for quantifying a solid phase reaction comprising: (a) initiating a solid phase reaction between a fluorine-containing solid phase reaction component, of the formula in which it is a solid support containing one or more fluorine atoms as internal standard; L is absent or is a linking group that optionally contains one or more fluorine atoms; and B is an appropriate functional group for the reaction with a fluorine-containing reactant or reactant to form a fluorine-containing solid phase reaction product. and a fluorine containing reactant or reactant to form a fluorine containing solid phase reaction product; (b) take a sample of said solid phase reaction after a predetermined time interval and obtain a 19 F NMR spectrum of said sample; and (c) comparing, in said 19F NMR spectrum, the 19F resonance of the fluorine-containing solid phase reaction product with the 19F resonance of said internal standard.
