In the present invention new vaccine strains of Vibrio cholerae are described in which the mucinous activity encoded by the hemagglutinin protease gene has been eliminated. This gene has been interrupted with the insertion of a marker gene. Another mutant of Vibrio cholerae with better biosecurity attributes is described.
