A method for detecting a cancerous colon cell comprising: contacting a sample obtained from an analysis colon cell with a probe for the detection of a gene product of a gene differentially expressed in colon cancer, the gene comprising a sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1, said contact being long enough to bind the probe with the gene product; and comparing a level of the union of the probe with the sample with a level of the union of the probe with a control sample obtained from a control colon cell, the control colon cell being of a known cancerous state; wherein a level of probe binding in the sample of colon analysis cells similar to the level of binding in a control sample is indicative of the cancerous state of the test colon cell.
