An oral care composition comprises a fluoride ion source sufficient to maintain a high fluoride content in the composition, an effective amount of a desensitizing agent and water. A method of maintaining anticaries activity of fluoride ion in an oral care composition comprises providing an oral care composition comprising fluoride ions, an effective amount of a desensitizing agent and water.
