A method includes obtaining a computed tomography (CT) data set of patient head (1a) around the temporal bone. A first reference star is attached in fixed position on the cranial bone using image guided surgery (IGS). Reference points are detected on the cranial bone and its three-dimensional (3D) spatial positions are ascertained. The 3D spatial positions are assigned to corresponding points in data set. A second star is attached to the temporal bone using IGS. Position of the second star is ascertained. Temporal bone position is ascertained for tracking it based on the second star position. Independent claims are included for (1) method for offsetting, repositioning or exchanging object parts in a reference object to a predetermined position; (2) device for tracking and/or offsetting object parts of body or bone structure of a patient; (3) computer program embodied on a computer readable medium for tracking object part of a patient body or bone structure.
