The device (10) has a cylindrical shape (12) with a sponge element (14) at the bottom pointing towards the body of the patient. The sponge (14) is kept in position by triangular projections (22.1,22.2,22.3,22.4,22.5) protruding from the bottom (26) and the sides (24) of the container (12). A membrane (30) inserted into a lid (28) and held by glue (34) serves as a speech valve. The bottom (26) is designed as a ring with two crosswise arranged narrow bridges in order to facilitate the exchange of moisture and heat.
