METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DYNAMICALLY CONFIGURING A MODULATION AND CODING SCHEME (MCS) USED IN A WIRELESS NETWORK

A method and apparatus is provided for automatically adjusting a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) set employed by an access point such as a base station. The method begins by monitoring an MCS set supported by a plurality of stations associated with or attempting to associate with a Basic Service Set (BSS). One or more transmission parameters used to communicate with the stations are adjusted so that the transmission parameters conform to an MCS set supported by each of the stations.
