The invention relates to a method and a device for producing units consisting of two glass panels which are interconnected by means of a connecting medium, especially a glass filter, and comprise an intermediate space, said units being used to create flat-panel monitors, flat discharge lamps and the like. The invention is characterised in that the intermediate space is evacuated before the gas-tight interconnection of the glass panels. According to the invention, the intermediate space is filled with the process gas via an opening in the glass panel. Especially a continuous furnace/pusher-type furnace is used as the inventive device. The invention also relates to a device for evacuating the intermediate space of the units and for filling the same with a process gas.
