An apparatus and a method for adjusting a color characteristic in a display system using a diffractive optical modulator are provided to manage in accordance with a brightness variation of an outer light by corresponding to a variation request of a color characteristic of a user. An apparatus for adjusting a color characteristic in a display system using a diffractive optical modulator includes a light source system(351). A diffractive optical modulator includes a first reflecting unit and a second reflecting unit separated from the first reflecting unit. A diffracted light is created by lights reflected from the first reflecting unit and the second reflecting unit. An image data is inputted in an image inputting unit. A color characteristic variation request is inputted in an inputting unit(312) by a user. An image outputting unit outputs the image data inputted from the image inputting unit. An optical modulator driving circuit controls an approaching distance of the first reflecting unit and the second reflecting unit according to amount of the approaching distance outputting in the image outputting unit.
