METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR USER-INTERFACE USING THE HAND TRACE

A user interface apparatus using the hand trace sensing and a method thereof are provided to input data by photographing hand shapes and movements to extract input signals by using a photographing device such as a CCD camera. A user interface apparatus is made up of an image photographing unit(100), a user command recognition unit(200), a user command processing unit(300), and a display unit(400). The image photographing unit is installed in an electronic device such as CMOS camera or CCD camera, takes photographs of motion of the user hands in real time, and outputs the photographed images to the user command recognition unit. The user command recognition unit extracts hand shapes from images inputted from the image photographing unit in real time, recognizes changes of the hand shapes, and outputs data input signal to the user command processing unit by creating a data input signals. The user command processing unit performs primal functions of the electronic devices by using the data input signal, and controls the display unit and peripheral devices. The display unit displays a position pointer, and shows a click signal input status to a user. And the display unit displays characters, and scrolls documents or web pages according to the input of the user command processing unit.
