An apparatus and a method for controlling a loop filter gain using a jitter of an input signal in a phase locked loop are provided to reduce an overload and power consumption by optimizing the loop filter gain. A loop filter gain control apparatus(200) includes a jitter measurement unit(210) for measuring a jitter value of an input signal and a micom(220) for adjusting a loop filter gain set in a phase locked loop(230) according to the jitter value measured by the jitter measurement unit. The micom measures repeatedly jitter values and sets the loop filter gain corresponding to the jitter value having the minimum value in the phase locked loop by changing sequentially the loop filter gain within a predetermined range when the jitter value measured by the jitter measurement unit is larger than a reference value.
