An apparatus and a method for recognizing a signal detection of a smart antenna are provided to reduce fabrication cost and reduce an antenna system by reducing the complexity of an overall system. Antennas(811,813) are arranged in series according to a predetermined method. A storage unit(821) stores a previously configured database. A radio DC converter(817) converts a combined signal of reception signals transferred to the antennas into a DC signal. A controller(819) receives the DC signal from the radio DC converter, obtains a size value of the DC signal, searches the size value from the database, and determines a phase difference of the reception signals corresponding to the size value and a direction in which the reception signals are inputted to the antennas. The radio DC converter includes a rectifier for rectifying the combined signal of the reception signals and a smoothing unit for smoothing the rectified signal.
