A composition comprises an extract of Platycarya strobilacea fruits is provided to be able to inhibit elastase and the MMP-1 expression, improving the skin elasticity and skin state, thereby being usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition and a cosmetic composition for inhibiting wrinkle formation and alleviating wrinkles. A skin external pharmaceutical composition comprises a crude extract of Platycarya strobilacea fruits which is extracted by using water including purified water or C1-4 lower alcohol. A skin external pharmaceutical composition for improving wrinkles comprises a polar solvent soluble extract of the Platycarya strobilacea fruits which is extracted by a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, methanol, butanol and a mixture solvent thereof. The composition is in the form of cream, gel, patch, sprayer, ointment, adhesive plaster, lotion, liniment, paste, or cataplasma.
