The combination has a switch e.g. field-effect transistor, for switching between a buck-converter operation and a boost-converter operation. A high voltage lies at an output (3) of the switch during the operation of the combination as a buck converter (1), and is higher than a supply voltage lying at an input (5) of the switch. The supply voltage is connected to another output (4) of the switch. A low voltage lies at the latter output during operation of the circuit as a boost-converter (2) and is lower than the supply voltage.
