The method involves determining a registration for an area (7) of an image (1), such the area (7) of another image is registered. The registration for the area (7) is extended to an extended registration, such that an area (5) is detected by the extended registration. One of the two images is transformed based on the extended registration and the transformed image is represented. A difference in the two images is determined within the area (5) by comparing the area (5) of the transformed image and the area (5) of the other image. An independent claim is also included for a medical imaging system with a computer unit.
