The system has two memory modules (2), storage area (4) and an introducing function, which transfers mail items from a mail item flow into the storage area. A withdrawal function removes the mail items (Pn) from the storage area. A separating mechanism is upstream and another separating mechanism is downstream to two memory modules in conveying direction (10) of the mail item. The separating mechanisms are so switched for integration of two memory modules, that a memory module works in introducing function and another memory module works in withdrawal function.
