The sorting system has multiple sorting registers, where mail items (P 1-P n+1) are slid from a conveyor-belt, and conveying a mail item flow, by switches. A memory module (2), works at last-in/first-out principle, is attached to the conveyor-belt in combination function with exit, by a switch, which is present in front of the switches for the sorting register in the conveyor-belt forming sorting circulation. The memory module has a storage area (4) and an inserting function, which conveys the mail items from the mail item flow. A transferring function transfers the mail item from the storage area for recirculation in the mail item flow. A process control, provided for controlling mail item flow and the switches.
