The fixed (i.e. not shifting automatically under load) reduction gear (6) is connected to the input shaft (2) by engaging the start-off clutch for forward travel (16), disengaging the start-off clutch for reverse travel (14) and disengaging the load-operated clutch (3). The fixed reduction gear (6) is connected to the input shaft (2) by disengaging the start-off clutch for forward travel (16), engaging the start-off clutch for reverse travel (14) and disengaging the load-operated clutch (3). The fixed reduction gear is connected to the input shaft (2) by opening the forward travel start-off clutch, opening the corresponding clutch for reverse travel and engaging the load-operated clutch.
