The device has a rotating plane shaft (5) for machining wood. A holding tank (2) is arranged above the plane shaft for retaining the wood, where the plane shaft is movable below a securely-mounted holding tank. The plane shaft is supported in a sliding carriage (4), where the plane shaft is driven by a hydraulic clamped belt such that two parts of the plane shaft are cut during processing in respective directions. The sliding carriage is attached to a spindle drive for height adjustment. The carriage is connected with a hydraulic or electric drive for a reciprocating movement.
