The method involves coupling a trailer (3) with a drawing vehicle (2), where a vehicle train (1) runs from the vehicle. System parts (5, 7) of a compressed air system (4) are attached to the vehicle and the trailer, respectively. A determination is made whether a leakage place of a detected leakage of the compressured air system is provided in the system part (5) or the system part (7). The detected leakage of the compressed air system of the vehicle train is taken as a detection result together with a characteristic value assigned to the trailer.
