The belt system has a vehicle longitudinal axis extended along the front driving direction of the motor vehicle and a horizontal vehicle transverse axis perpendicular to the vehicle longitudinal axis. A safety belt is provided for holding back passenger, using the motor vehicle seat, in case of a crash. An actuation equipment (3), activated by a crash sensor, of the belt system affects belt sections (20,22) of the belt system in the activated condition in such a way that it exerts a force on the passenger (I) using the motor vehicle seat (1). The force moves away the passenger along the horizontal vehicle transverse axis (y) from a lateral body section (ST).
