The control for a motor vehicle airbag (AB,GS) has an initial interface (IF1) to take a signal from a crash sensor (100). An evaluation circuit (mu C) generates a control signal according to the sensor signal. A control circuit (FLIC) controls the brake system (ABV,ABS,BS) according to the control signal. The evaluation circuit has a crash collision recognition module.
