The seal, preferably a rotary shaft seal, has a static sealing component (11) and a dynamic sealing component (12) which are part of a sealing element (9) which is fastened on a support body (3). The sealing element is formed as a deformable annular disc which advantageously consists of polyfluorcarbon, especially polytetrafluorethylene. The static sealing component is formed by the radially outer edge section of the sealing element.
