The method involves starting an older version of a multimedia home platform (MHP) application by a set-top box during the existence of special information such as flag-launchable-with-older version. Version numbers of the application is compared by an older application if a change of the application is severe, such that the changed version is received and stored in a cache memory. A user of the set-top box is signalized in case of a necessary update of the cache memory such that a narrow band-transponder channel is switched and the changed application is received. An independent claim is also included for a set-top box controllable by a controlling method.
