The method involves storing data in a memory unit e.g. smart card, where the data represents a cosmetic profile of a user. Another data is stored in an intelligent label (1), where the latter data represents a cosmetic profile of a cosmetic product (2). The intelligent label is assigned to the cosmetic product, and the latter data is transmitted from the intelligent label to the memory unit. The two data are compared with each other, and the cosmetic product is determined as the cosmetic product suitable for the user, if the data match with each other. An independent claim is also included for a system for determining a cosmetic product suitable for a user.
