The composition of the alloy, in each case expressed as a percentage by weight, is as follows: Nd 2.7-3.3, Y 1.8-2.4, Zn 0.2-0.8, Zr 0.2-0.6. On the same basis (wt%) the Si content is less than 0.03, Cu less than 0.005, Fe less than 0.005 and Ni less than 0.001. The remainder comprises magnesium and insignificant impurities. Further alternative compositions are quantified. The wheel is made by forging and subsequent drawing-down. Forging takes place at 400-450[deg] C. The maximum forging velocity is 15 mm/s. Drawing takes place at 400-450[deg] C at a maximum rate of 0.7 m/minute. The degree of deformation per rolling stage is up to 0.5. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the corresponding method.
