The unit (20) has a gating point and an outlet door for passage of a gas bag (44), where the outlet door is surrounded in sections by attenuation grooves (26). The gating point lies on the attenuation grooves for controlled opening of a plastic unit (22) during expansion of the gas bag. The attenuation grooves extend from a surface into the plastic element. A plastic layer (30) is sprayed on surfaces of the plastic unit.
