The control unit comprises two sensors (4.1,4.2), where one of the sensor detects the light conditions in a front area of a vehicle (1), and other sensor detects the light conditions at a rear area. The rear fog lamp (5) is switched-on or switched-off depending on the basis of a difference of light conditions in the front area and the rear area. The sensors are designed as a light sensor, a rain sensor, an ambient light sensor, an optical measurement unit, a camera or a brightness sensor.
