The method involves driving a vehicle in a driving range by directly connecting an output (19) of a power branch (3) with an output (34) of a summing transmission section (20) and decoupling another power branch (4) from the section. A transmission ratio of the branch (3) is reduced up to a switching speed of a drive system, and the former range is changed to another driving range by decoupling the output (19) from the output (34) and connecting an output (30) of the branch (4) with an input (21) of the section, where speed of the input (21) and another input (23) of the section is reduced.
