The system (100) has a host (110) in signal communication with a flash memory card device (120) e.g. Universal serial bus (USB) card, flash memory (150), ferroelectric RAM, parameter RAM, magneto resistive RAM, dynamic RAM and electrical erasable programmable ROM. The host provides a memory management function e.g. flash translation layer task, operating system task and device driver task, for the memory card device and issues a command e.g. read, write, copy and erase, to the memory card device for enabling or disabling encryption or decryption. An independent claim is also included for a method for cooperative memory management between a host and a memory card device.
