The method involves monitoring a movement characteristic e.g. velocity and a stability criterion of a vehicle e.g. three-wheeled scooter. A change in the movement characteristic of the vehicle is sensed, when the stability criterion and the change in the movement are greater than respective preset values. A change is caused in the velocity of the vehicle so that the criterion is no longer greater than the preset value. A magnitude of the velocity of the vehicle is decreased, and a vehicle speed command is provided to a computerized controller for achieving a desired vehicle speed.
