The engine has a turbo compressor provided with a compressor driven in rotation by a turbine (2), where the compressor communicates with an admission distributor (4) distributing gas in cylinders (1) of the engine. The turbine communicates with a manifold (9) collecting an exhaust gas (14) issued from the cylinders. A storage reservoir (15) communicates with the exhaust gas, before the passage of exhaust gas through the turbine, by a communication duct (16) having a workable closing unit (17) constituting a check valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for supercharging an internal combustion engine.
