The method involves accomplishing a secondary injection of a quantity of fuel into a combustion chamber in predominant operating conditions of an internal combustion engine (10) for increasing temperature of an exhaust gas of the engine by an injection device after a main injection. The exhaust gas flowing through an exhaust gas tract (26) of the engine is loaded with a fuel by an injection of the fuel into the exhaust gas tract by a dosing device (32). A dosing pump without a valve is used as the dosing device.
