The method involves estimating a power steering torque to be provided by electrical power steering motor (46), coupled to a drive pinion (12), using a logic controller (50), where the power steering torque is directly the function of a motor torque (Cmot/red) provided by the motor on the drive pinion. The parameterization of the logic controller is adapted according to inputs of a driver of the motor vehicle and various life situation of the vehicle. The motor torque is estimated from the motor current (Imot) and motor rotational speed (omega-mot).
