The system has an elementary filtration cell (10) crossed by exhaust gas and a central electrode (32) maintained between two wall elements of the cell, where the electrode is in form of a rod (34). The rod has an end arranged inside insulation units (38) mounted in a central part of a disk (30). The cell has a deflector sleeve (62) surrounding one of the insulation unit to delimit an open annular chamber. A control unit control electric supply units to create electric discharge between the electrode and the units. An independent claim is also included for a method for electrostatic filtering of soot particles contained in exhaust gas by intermediate of a filtration system.
