Disclosed is a method of deploying a software module in a configurable terminal, such as a computer or mobile phone. The method has the steps of providing a software module to the configurable terminal, assessing the software module in the terminal before deployment or installation, if the assessment is found to be satisfactory, the module is deployed. The assessment may involve analysing a network description of the module with respect to set criteria. The terminal may receive or generate the network description of the module as part of the assessment. The analyses may include invariant analysis, load analysis, state-space exploration, delay analysis or checking the syntax and the criteria may include safety, liveness, reachability boundedness and delay times. The results of the assessment may be shared with other terminals and compared with the results from the other terminals. The module may be a communications protocol or enhancement.
