PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which can be produced by a simple operation and a simple process and can finely disperse a catalytic metal and a high molecular compound to be a precursor of the catalyst.;SOLUTION: A catalyst is yielded by calcining a hydrazone metal complex prepared by making a hydrazone compound expressed by formula (1) (wherein Py is a 2-pyridyl group, a 3-pyridyl group, or a 4-pyridyl group) be coordinated with at least one catalytic metal species. A hydrazone high molecular compound has a unit derived from a hydrazone compound expressed by at least the formula (1) as a repeating unit.
