PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a spatial distribution of color data contains a bias or discontinuity because conventional compression or expansion of a color gamut is implemented by shifting or changing chromaticity points in a prescribed color space. PSOLUTION: For color gamut compression, the color conversion output device includes a color input portion 10 for inputting color data of a first color gamut, a color mapping portion 11 for compressing and clipping the color data of the first color gamut as color data in a second color gamut, a color combining portion 12 for combining the compressed and clipped color data and the color data of the first color gamut, and a color output portion 13 for outputting the combined color data to a second color gamut device. For color gamut expansion, the color conversion output device comprises a color input portion 10 for inputting color data of a first color gamut, a color mapping portion 11 for storing and mapping chromaticity of the color data of the first color gamut as color data in a second color gamut, a color combining portion 12 for combining the chromaticity-stored and mapped color data and the color data of the first color gamut, and a color output portion 13 for outputting the combined color data and the to the second color gamut device.
