PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire-cut electric discharge machine with a water level abnormality detecting function and a water level abnormality alarm generation cause specifying method.;SOLUTION: The wire-cut electric discharge machine comprises a liquid supply means for supplying a machining liquid to a machining tank 3, a liquid draining means for draining the machining liquid from the machining tank, a detecting means for detecting the water level of the machining liquid stored in the machining tank, a water level adjusting mechanism for supplying or draining the machining liquid to adjust the water level in the machining tank, and the water level abnormality detecting function 6 for generating a liquid level abnormality alarm when a difference between the water level detected by the water level detecting means and a target level exceeds a preset range. It also has an output means for stopping the supply of the machining liquid to the machining tank and outputting a drain command when the alarm is generated, a display means 13 for displaying a question to an operator about a variation of the water level and the condition of the water level adjusting mechanism, an input means for inputting an answer to the question, and a cause specifying means 14 for specifying a site as a cause of the generated alarm from the input reply.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
