PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper for preventing forgery having high preventing effects on forgery in which invisible magnetic information is embedded in the resultant paper by compounding a colored magnetic powder in a pulp slurry in a process for producing the paper and applying a watermarked pattern of significant information to a part where the colored magnetic powder is blended at the time of a wet web state and to provide both a method for distinguishing the genuineness thereof and an apparatus for distinguishing the genuineness. SOLUTION: This paper 2 for preventing forgery is prepared by uniformly dispersing a colored magnetic powder assuming a color other than black and dark gray in a pulp slurry and blending the colored magnetic powder therein in a process for producing a paper and applying a watermark of 5 patterns 1 of Mansen (many lines expressing intermediate density) having 30 mm printing image length, 0.3 mm printing image width and 4 mm printing image pitch in a part where the colored magnetic powder is blended at the time of a wet web state. Furthermore, a paper having high preventing effects on the forgery and provided with an invisible magnetic optional pattern corresponding to a paper stock uneven shape of the watermarked part and intrinsic magnetic characteristics is formed. The invisible optional magnetic pattern, intrinsic magnetic characteristics and light transmittance and reflectance of an optional site of the paper are further detected together to carry out the distinguishing of the genuineness.
